While auto manufacturers today have an extended range of models in their arsenal that are designed for different purposes such as comfort, efficiency, and off-roading, there is one area that is often quoted on spec sheets that makes takes us back to the days of comparing “Top Trumps” cards: top speed.
Matt Watson from Carwow takes us through an extensive list of production cars from automakers around the world that you can buy right now, ranging from hot hatches to coupes to EVs and SUVs. Of course, quite a few (mostly German) manufacturers willingly limit their vehicles’ top speed to 155 mph (248 km/h). But there are still a few cars that push beyond this limit to achieve supercar-like performance figures.

The very first car in the comparison is a statement that big engines aren’t necessarily needed to produce a fast car. The Alpine A110 is a featherweight on this list, and has a 1.8-liter turbocharged four cylinder. However, the highest spec, 292 HP version can reach 161 mph (258 km/h).
Another unexpected candidate on the list is the Jeep Trackhawk. Unlike the dainty A110, the Jeep has a massive 6.2-liter supercharged V8. The Trackhawk, despite its considerable heft, has a top speed of 180 mph (288 km/h)— 4 mph (6 km/h) more than the Range Rover Sport SVR.
Although Bentleys are mostly known for their luxury, the Continental GT has a mildly terrifying top speed — of course, achievable while a passenger slurps a soothing cup of tea inside its sumptuous cabin. The Continental GT is capable of reaching a 207 mph (331.2 km/h) top speed thanks to its 6.0-liter W12 engine that produces 635hp.
Surely no ‘Fastest Cars’ list would ever be justified without mentioning a modern-day Bugatti. The last car featured in the list is the Chiron Super Sport 300+ that, thanks to its borderline ridiculous figure of 1,578 HP, will do a top speed of 304 mph (486.4 km/h).
