This Is The SCG 007 LMH Hypercar Heading To Le Mans

The Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus 007 is being put through its paces prior to the forthcoming 2021 World Endurance Championship.

After months of development, the boutique manufacturer and race team recently headed to the Vallelunga circuit in Italy to test the car and providing us with our first look at the vehicle.

Looking very different than the car previewed in renderings last year, the SCG 007 features an aggressive aerodynamics package that includes a massive rear wing and shark fin. It also features a prominent roof scoop and bulging front and rear wheel arches. French racing driver and former 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Romain Dumas was tasked with fine-tuning the car during its first shakedown test.

Powering the SCG 007 set to compete in the Le Mans Hypercar class is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine produced by French engine specialist Pipo Moteurs. This engine has a pair of heads derived from the engines used by World Rally Championship cars and has an ‘artificial intelligence throttle’ that keeps the turbochargers spooled regardless of throttle input.

Vehicle’s competing in the Le Mans Hypercar class can produce no more than 670 hp and while some teams, such as Toyota, are using hybrid powertrains, SCG isn’t pairing its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor.

The team will enter two cars in the championship with drivers Richard Westbrook, Romain Dumas, Franck Mailleux, Olivier Pla, Pipo Derani, Ryan Briscoe, and Gustavo Menezes.

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus will race against Toyota and Alpine in this year’s championship following confirmation that ByKolles Racing is no longer competing in 2021. The championship will grow in 2022 with the arrival of Peugeot and in 2023, expand further with Ferrari.
