Volkswagen is celebrating the U.S. launch of the ID.4 by kicking off an ad campaign which highlights how electric vehicles will change the world in unexpected ways.

Known as “Before,” the campaign focuses on real-world scenarios that can be improved by the ID.4 as “before it can change the world, it has to change yours.”

The first spot is known as “Adventure” and it begins with a teenager sneaking out of the house while noting “Before, they would have heard me taking the car.” It then cuts to her dad, who reveals the silent getaway wasn’t successful as “Before, I didn’t have an app that showed me when she was taking the car.”

The silent theme is echoed later in the clip as a mom plays relaxing music and adjusts the ambient lighting system to help her child fall to sleep. She then says, “They won’t know a world before electric.”

A quiet ride is just one of the benefits and Tanner Foust makes a cameo to say “Before, the chance of an SUV handling more like a hot hatch, uh none.”

While the hotter all-wheel drive variant will arrive later this year, Volkswagen is currently accepting reservations for the rear-wheel ID.4 Pro.  The model will arrive this summer for $39,995 but a $7,500 federal tax credit effectively lowers the price to $32,495.

Besides being affordable, the ID.4 has an 82 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. This setup should enable the ID.4 Pro to have a range of approximately 250 miles (402 km).
