The Dacia Spring has started being subjected to short drives, and one of these videos caught our attention.
The clip is 10 minutes long and shows the small Romanian electric vehicle in the real world from the driver’s seat. Mind you, this isn’t really a review, but rather a quiet hands-on experience.

Taking a look at the spec sheet reveals that the Spring is dead-slow. The 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes forever, or 19.1 seconds as Dacia puts it, and going from 80 to 120 km/h (50-75 mph) on the highway would require 26.2 seconds. If you are patient enough, then you will complete a standing kilometer (0.6 miles) in 40.5 seconds. Keep the throttle planted for a good chunk of the drive and you will eventually see 125 km/h (78 mph) on the speedometer.
The performance sounds simply awful, but surprisingly, it doesn’t look that slow from behind the wheel even on the highway. And once you remember that the Spring was built for urban use, hence the 45 PS (44 HP / 33 kW) and 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) of torque motor – well, that and to keep the price down – it starts making sense. Factor in the 305-kilometer (190-mile) range with the 27.4 kWh battery fully charged and €10,920 ($12,859) starting price in Germany after incentives and the Spring doesn’t look all that bad.
