Spy photographers have snapped the 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe on multiple occasions, but now the camouflage is starting to come off.

While there’s no denying that the car is still heavily disguised, the blocky camo has been removed and this gives us a good look at the production front end.

As you can see, the coupe will feature a wider and more expressive grille. It’s flanked by sweptback headlights, which are recessed and better integrated into the curvature of the hood.

Further below, there’s a trapezoidal center intake and angular ones at the outside edges. The latter also incorporate vertical air curtains.

Moving further back, the model has a prominent shoulder line and muscular fenders. Designers also gave the car angular side skirts and an evolutionary greenhouse.

Other notable styling features include a trunk-mounted spoiler and a rounder rear bumper with vertical reflectors. Two different prototypes were spotted and one features a dual exhaust system that has tips on either side of a small diffuser.

Spy photographers didn’t get close enough to snap interior pictures, but previous images have shown a more modern and high-tech cabin. Highlights are slated to include a digital instrument cluster and a larger infotainment display. They’ll be joined by higher quality switchgear, metallic accents and fancier door panels.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with approximately 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS). It could be joined by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six developing around 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS). Later on, there will be a new M2 and it could have a detuned version of the twin-turbo straight-six that powers the M3 and M4.
