An ‘R’ version of the 2021 Polo would be more than welcome, and while Volkswagen isn’t officially interested in offering such a model, the internet begs to differ.

The Polo R sports a new front bumper with massive side air intakes and new central section. It has a bigger spoiler at the back, large wheels and a two-tone paint finish that combines matte blue as the dominant color with black used for the roof and side mirror caps.

Such a model would feature other upgrades over the regular variants of the facelifted Polo, including front sports seats with integrated headrests and extra side bolstering, sportier steering wheel, ‘R’ logos decorating the cockpit, special upholstery and new graphics for the two main screens.
Since a Polo R has zero chances of happening, the GTI will remain the range-topper of the facelifted Polo lineup. Volkswagen has yet to present it, yet it should soldier on with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as its predecessor, where it produces 197 HP and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. The current Polo GTI does the 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds and tops out at 147 mph (237 km/h).
