While they may look nothing out of the ordinary, a classic Triumph Stag and a Morgan 4/4 hide an electric secret.

Modified by Electrogenic, an Oxford-based company specialized in classic electric vehicle conversions, they are true pioneers among their kind, or so the British firm claims.

The Stag no longer packs its original 1976 3.0-liter V8, as it is now powered by a ‘Hyper9’ high-voltage brushless electric motor. It is mated to the original four-speed manual gearbox and puts out 80 kW (109 PS / 107 HP) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque that are sent to the rear wheels. The 37 kWh battery pack, mounted where the ICE and fuel tank used to be found, as well as under the boot floor, uses a Type 2 charger and delivers a range of around 150 miles (240 km).

Meanwhile, the four-cylinder internal combustion unit that has been powering this Morgan 4/4 ever since it left the factory floor back in 1957 was removed, together with other components. Power is now supplied by the same electric motor used in the Stag, in an identical configuration, and the thrust is directed to the rear axle through the original manual gearbox. The 37 kWh battery pack allows it to drive for up to 150 miles (240 km) on a single charge.

“Converting older cars like these to electric power is about using modern technology to bring out the best characteristics in the cars”, said Electrogenic co-founder Steve Drummond. “For us this means increasing power within the capabilities of the original vehicle, optimizing weight distribution and not using too many batteries to keep the handling crisp and precise.”

“We love the challenge of converting beautiful classic cars with technology that means they will be able to continue to be used guilt-free, even in our cities, for years to come”, added co-founder Ian Newstead. “Working on first-time conversions such as the Stag and the Morgan 4/4 helps us to continue honing both our technology offering and our knowledge of the integration process in different body types, and means we maintain our position as a leader in classic car electrification.”

Electrogenic can convert a wide range of classic cars to electric power. Pricing varies from project to project, depending on what the customer wants.
