Cadillac’s transition into an all-electric car manufacturer will see the end of the Escalade as we know it, but it won’t disappear anytime soon.

During a recent interview with Auto News, president of global forecasting at LMC Automotive, Jeff Schuster, suggested that the ICE-powered Escalade will remain in production until 2029, just prior to the automaker’s transition to an EV-only brand in 2030.

Schuster said that General Motors will probably build similar SUVs to the Escalade albeit with electric powertrains and sell them alongside existing ICEs. In fact, GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit is expected to begin producing electric SUVs the size of the Escalade and Escalade ESV in 2023.

While Cadillac wants to be selling nothing other than electric vehicles from 2030, Schuster added that this date could be pushed further out or even pulled forward if the traditional Escalade is phased out earlier than expected.

Cadillac revealed it will transition to an EV-only brand following the unveiling of the 2023 Lyriq at the Shanghai Auto Show. The Lyriq marks the start of the automaker’s electric push and when it lands in showrooms early next year, will be priced at under $60,000. The next EV from Cadillawill take the forc m of the Celestiq, a luxurious sedan sharing lots of technology with the Lyriq that is expected to launch in 2023.

This announcement from Cadillac came not long after General Motors said it plans to transition exclusively to electric vehicles across its light-duty portfolio by 2035.
