On Wednesday evening, a fire truck in Detroit that was speeding to the scene of a fire slammed into a gas station after being T-boned by an SUV.

Security camera footage from the scene shows the fire truck speeding towards the intersection at Dequindre and State Fair with its lights flashing and, presumably, its sirens blaring. However, the driver of a black Lincoln Navigator failed to yield to the truck and rammed into its side.

The force of this impact sent the SUV into a lamp post on the corner of the intersection while the fire truck was sent directly into the side of a van filling up at the gas station. This crash span the van around the pump and triggered a fire which, fortunately, didn’t last long.

Speaking with Fox 2 Detroit, a witness claimed that the Navigator SUV had a green light when it collided with the fire truck.

“The truck was coming down Dequindre, it had the green light,” the witness said. “The fire truck was coming down Outer Drive. The fire truck tried to avoid him and go up Dequindre, he lost control. It was just a blind-side accident, but he was in the right.”

Detroit police are investigating the incident but have yet to determine who was at fault. The seven individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries but are all expected to fully recover.
