People who want to add a bit more carbon fiber customization to their Mustang Shelby GT500 now have four new ways of doing so. Adding the new hood vent, front splitter, front bumper insert, and rear decklid trim panel, though, will cost you nearly five grand.

The parts were recently unveiled at the GT500 track tour even at Texas Motor Speedway, near Dallas. They are both strong and lightweight, thanks to their carbon fiber construction, and will make your GT500 look a little sportier.

The carbon fiber hood vent and rain tray kit ($1,185) tips the scales at just four pounds. That compares favorably to the standard part, which weighs twice as much.

The front splitter ($1,820), meanwhile, comes with a belly pan and also weighs just four pounds. Again, that cuts the weight compared to the standard part, which weighs in at seven pounds.

The front bumper insert fits ($1,150) between the Mustang’s upper and lower grille intakes, and weighs just one pound, while the rear decklid trim panel ($575) weighs in at just two pounts. All in, the four parts help cut nine whole pounds off the car.

That might not sound like much, but Nissan recently decided it couldn’t afford to paint the hood of its latest GT-R Nismo because it would add 100 grams (3.5 ounces) to the overall weight of the car and that might have ruined its performance.

Like that hood, these parts also add a bit of carbon fiber flare to the car’s exterior (which is probably why both companies really did it) and in the case of the GT500, will add even more of the stuff than either Carbon Fiber package offers.

“Authenticity and personalization are what our Mustang Shelby GT500 customers want, and our new carbon fiber performance accessories provide an elevated track-proven look from every angle,” said Mark Wilson, Ford North America vehicle personalization, planning, and operations manager. “Beyond leveraging this high-performance material to reduce weight, we track-tested and validated its durability at Ford Performance Racing School in North Carolina.”

All parts are available through the Ford Performance parts catalog.
