People who were eager enough to order the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition will be getting an extra little surprise with their car: a 3D printed pony sculpture.
The sculpture is made at the Ford Advanced Manufacturing Center and comes in one of three colors, just like the Mach-E First Edition. Printed in white, it’s then sent to a dye facility to be finished in Rapid Red Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic, or Carbonized Gray to match the vehicle it’s handed out with.
To make doubly sure it matches the car it’s sent out with, the base plate comes complete with the VIN number of the owner’s car.
The pony is the first 3D printed component Ford has ever sent customers as part of a gift to customers, though not the first 3D printed part it has ever sent out into the world.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve 3D-printed a vehicle part, but this one is different,” said Harold Sears, technical leader for additive manufacturing. “It highlights a special connection with the customer and is really exciting because it showcases the potential to personalize. When you think additive manufacturing, you think of making parts, assembly fixtures or jigs to help build a vehicle, but this is another place where additive manufacturing can shine.”
The Mach-E First Edition comes with the Extended Range battery pack that should give 270 miles of range. Its motors are capable of generating 332 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, whose brake calipers are painted red.
The First Edition will also come with Ford’s assisted driving function, BlueCruise, as standard.
