GTO Engineering has revealed the final production look and the name of its new sports car. Called the Squalo, which means shark in Italian, it pays tribute to the Ferrari 250 GTO while using modern hardware.
Formerly known as ‘Project Moderna’, GTO’s new sports car decided to use Squalo instead due to the similarly named COVID-19 vaccine.
Is It Okay To Modify A Lesser Ferrari Into A GTO Engineering 250 SWB Revival?
On paper, the new GTO Squalo looks like a thrilling driving machine, with a sub-1,000 kg target weight, a quad-cam naturally aspirated V12 engine, and a manual gearbox. The car will ride on bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels shod in model-specific tires that are currently in development.
The final drawings of the engine were also released by GTO Engineering, which will employ several weight-saving engineering upgrades and quite pleasing aesthetics. For instance, the company removed the surround of the carbs to ensure you get to see the open trumpets every time the bonnet is opened. Final specs, including the engine’s size, output figures, and the target weight for the engine will be released next month.
“It’s often the small parts of a car that take the longest time. We’re now at a stage where the design models are being created here in the UK and soon we will announce our technical partners working with us on the exterior manufacturing and interiors, as well as wheels and tires,” said GTO Engineering managing director and founder Mark Lyon. “In all my years working in the [automotive] industry, I’ve never been as excited about the creativity of manufacturing and design as I am now.”
GTO Engineering has already received customer orders for the Squalo and will deliver the first examples to their owners in 2023.
