The month that just ended was Hyundai Motor America’s best ever. With total sales of 75,403 units for the month, it marks a 115% increase over its sales in March 2020.

Hyundai’s sales were led by the Tucson, of which 15,744 sold. That marks an increase of 159% for the crossover and means that in March 2021 alone, the model sold nearly 3/4 of what it had in all of Q1 2020.

It wasn’t all crossovers for Hyundai, though. The Elantra’s sales rose 70% in March to 12,598. That made it the brand’s best-selling vehicle last month and its third-best-selling vehicles in Q1 2021.

The Santa Fe’s sales have increased a total of 44% in Q1 to 28,570, though its sales for the month of March were slightly lower than the Elantra’s at 11,538. That still meant an increase of 82% for the crossover, though.

Unfortunately for fans of oddball cars, the only Hyundai whose sales fell in March was the Veloster. The company shifted just 272 last month, down 53% for its total of 575 in March 2020.

Although its sales were up 50% in March 2021, the Accent’s sales are also down for the year so far. Hyundai managed to sell just 4,272 of the economy cars in Q1 2021, meaning its sales are down 11% as compared to last year.

The brand’s total sales for Q1, though strong, weren’t quite as strong as its sales in March. With 167,130 deliveries so far this year, Hyundai is up 28% in 2021 as compared to 2020.

“It was a historic U.S. sales performance in March and Q1 for Hyundai,” said Randy Parker, senior VP National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Strong consumer confidence, stable inventory, a compelling lineup, attention-grabbing advertising and the efforts of our dealer partners all came together to deliver these results.”
