Modern cars are predictable. It usually takes a lot of provocation, or a big driver error, for something dramatic to happen. Yet, as this video from Instagram shows, that’s not always the case.
As you can see, there’s a number of cars are sitting in traffic. When they start moving, a Hyundai driver in the right lane, just in front of the car with the dashcam, veers to the right, probably due to the fact that its driver was somehow distracted, and crashes into a parked car.
Shockingly, despite traveling at a low speed, the moment it crashed into the left rear end of the parked car it somersaulted, flipped over, hit the tarmac with its roof and eventually landed on its wheels across the two-lane street.

If the speedometer on the car tailing the Hyundai is anything to go on, the car ahead wasn’t doing much more than 25 mph. That’s still a lot of force. The average car experiences 60 kilonewtons of force (about 6 tons) during a 20 mph crash.
The accident, which, according to the uploader, took place on the corner of 64th and Lindbergh in Philadelphia earlier this week, is a great reminder of why it’s so important to drive carefully, even around town.
It’s also an effective reminder of why you probably shouldn’t be sitting half out the window of a moving car, like the front passenger in an SUV right beside the Hyundai (and two others in front of the SUV) did. Even if the car you’re in doesn’t crash, there’s always a chance someone else next to you might – and in that case, you definitely want to be inside the car. Thankfully, the other cars had cleared the Hyundai by the time the accident happened, so there was no contact.
