Mercedes was recently filmed testing a C-Class prototype in Germany, and judging by the flared wheel arches, large rims with fat tires, and what appears to be a hidden Panamericana grille behind that camo, it might have been the range-topping AMG C63 model.
Although it’s a short clip and the car is covered in camouflage, so it doesn’t really tell us much, it is nevertheless one of the first videos that show it in motion.

With the car filmed from a distance and, mostly, in the middle of traffic, it’s nearly impossible to hear its engine. However, we don’t expect the all-new C63 (name still unconfirmed) to sound as good as its predecessors because it won’t have a V8 engine anymore. The 4.0-liter bi-turbo unit will be replaced by a four-banger, probably based on the one from the ‘45’ range, understood to produce around 415 HP. It will be aided by an electric motor generating an alleged 200 HP, and together, they will reportedly develop over 540 HP and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque.
Despite being more powerful than the current model, the 2022 C63 will be around 550 pounds (250 kg) heavier, due to the addition of the electric motor and battery pack. Even so, it is expected to complete the nought to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in around 3.5 seconds, which, if correct, would make it a couple of tenths of a second quicker than its predecessor. It’s also been reported that, with the battery fully charged, the new C63 will have an electric range of up to 40 miles (65 km).
