With Alfa Romeo‘s return to the United States came a few new things: a sedan, a crossover, and a mid-engine sports car. However, aside from the ultra-expensive, limited-run 8C, which nominally marked the brand’s return to the States in 2008, the U.S. hasn’t seen a proper Alfa Romeo GT car in decades.
Graphic designer Marco Pietro Maltese decided to render such a car and envisioned a modern take on the brand’s famous Montreal coupe. Called the Montreal Hommage, the car draws inspiration from the 1970s car with which it shares its name. Maltese says it is designed as a high performance GT coupe that would help Alfa Romeo further cement itself as a brand in the States.

The nods to the original Montreal are readily apparent, and fit in surprisingly well with the modern design. Things like the louvered headlights, vented C-pillars, Kamm tail and overall shape all evoke the spirit of the Montreal without appearing dated. And as mentioned before, this car’s design is not exclusively retro. Elements such as the grille, wheels, and fender vents all bear a resemblance to the cars currently in Alfa Romeo’s stable.

Maltese didn’t provide any details on the powertrain, but whatever he might have in mind – whether it be gasoline-powered, electric, or both – could surely surpass the 197 hp (200 PS / 147 kW) and 173 lb-ft (235 Nm) of torque made by the original Montreal’s 2.6L V8 engine.
