The best qualifier of this year’s MotoGP season will walk away with the keys to a brand new 2021 BMW M5 CS.

This will mark the 19th time that BMW has awarded the sport’s best qualifier with one of its new vehicles. The M5 CS that will be handed over is finished in Frozen Deep Green metallic.

“The BMW M5 CS has been in action as one of our new MotoGP safety cars since the season-opener in Qatar,” BMW M chief executive Markus Flasch said in a statement. “As such, it was an obvious decision for us to offer its production counterpart as the prize for the 2021 BMW M Award. For almost two decades, the BMW M Award has been a pillar of our involvement as ‘Official Car of MotoGP’. It has always been important to us to honour the qualifying performances of the MotoGP riders with a spectacular prize.”

Providing the M5 CS with its punch is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 pumping out 627 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This allows the super sedan to sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds and reach a 190 mph (306 km/h) top speed. Not only does the M5 CS have slightly more power than the M5 Competition on which it is based, but it also weighs less thanks to the more extensive use of carbon fiber. BMW also removed some of the vehicle’s soundproofing, meaning it now weighs 230 lbs (104 kg) less than the M5 Competition.

Last year’s best MotoGP qualifier, Fabio Quatararo, was awarded a BMW M2 CS at the end of the season. Prior to that, Marc Marquez won the award for seven consecutive years between 2013 and 2019, receiving two M6s, an M4, M2, M3 CS, M4 CS, and an X4 M Competition.
