New Audi A7 L Is An Elongated Sedan Version Of The Sportback

The 2021 Audi A7 L has just premiered at the Shanghai Auto Show and as we had expected, it is a sedan version of the standard A7 Sportback.

The vehicle has been developed through the SAIC joint venture and as the ‘L’ in the name suggests, it is a long-wheelbase version of the luxury car. With that in mind, the wheelbase has been extended by 3.85 inches (98 mm) to 119.1 inches (3,026 mm). This means the A7 L is a cool 199.8-inches (5,076 mm) long.

In converting the A7 L into a sedan, Audi has only altered what it needed to, meaning styling tweaks are limited to the slightly different roof, taller second-row side windows, and a new tailgate. There’s also a pronounced lip spoiler and tweaked taillights with new LED graphics.

Audi will initially sell the A7 L in First Edition guise throughout China. This variant comes standard with air suspension and also features four-wheel steering, something that’s extremely important for a vehicle of this size. Production will be capped at just 1,000 units, all of which will feature Audi’s 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with mild-hybrid technology that’s good for 335 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Drive is sent through all four wheels and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The vehicle will be built through the SAIC-VW joint venture at a revamped plant in Shanghai from later this year. In addition to the 3.0-liter mild-hybrid of the First Edition, Audi is also expected to offer the A7 L with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
