Having kicked off the teaser campaign of the ID.4 GTX earlier this week, Volkswagen has now confirmed that the model will be presented on April 28 for Europe.

Joining the likes of the hot GTI, GTD and GTE models, it will sit at the top of the regular ID.4 range and will debut the ‘GTX’ moniker that will be adopted by other VW electric vehicles in the future.

“The letters GT have long stood for driving pleasure. Now, the X is building the bridge to the mobility of the future. Sustainability and sportiness are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other intelligently”, said the brand’s Board Member for Marketing and Sales, Klaus Zellmer.

The first-ever ID.4 GTX will add a second electric motor on the front axle for improved traction and faster takeoffs. The secondary power unit will switch on intelligently in a few milliseconds if the system senses that extra performance and/or stronger traction are required, and can remain permanently active in the new ‘Traction’ driving mode.

The exact output remains unknown, but it’s been reported that it will have a combined 302 HP, like the Skoda Enyaq iV RS. This would enable a 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration in 6.2 seconds, over one second faster than the standard model.

In addition to the meatier powertrain, tuned suspension and beefier brakes, the ID.4 GTX will feature sporty design details on the outside and exclusive light signature, Volkswagen has confirmed.
