The all-electric NIO ES6 has been on sale in China for quite some time now and while we’ve seen lots of photos of it, we haven’t seen all that many videos of the SUV being put to the test. That’s exactly what this clip shows as an ES6 is pushed to its limits on the Nurburgring.

NIO’s flagship SUV features a dual-motor setup and offers up to 536 hp and all-wheel drive in its range-topping guise. What’s interesting about the electric powertrain is the fact that the ES6 has a high-efficiency permanent magnet motor producing 215 hp and a high-performance induction motor adding 322 hp.

NIO uses the permanent magnet motor for medium and low-speed daily driving while the rear-mounted induction motor kicks in to provide maximum acceleration and performance. Providing these two motors with their juice is an 84 kWh battery pack located in the floor.

Obviously, the Nio ES6 isn’t a track-tuned sports car, but in this video, we can see that it was able to lap the Nurburgring with decent pace and looks to be quite poised during some of the most difficult sections of the track.

It didn’t perform flawlessly, however. As noted by the driver, the electronic stability control kept on engaging the brakes, thinking the driver didn’t have control of the SUV. This eventually led to the brakes overheating and caused a very spongy brake pedal. The ES6 also lost some power about halfway through the lap, capping top speed to 150 km/h (93 mph).
