Nissan is pretty excited about the latest version of its stalwart R35 GT-R, the 2022 Nismo. The car features a fancy new paint job, named Stealth Grey, that chief product specialist Hiroshi Tamura calls “the new color of Nismo.”

But not all of the bodywork is finished in that particular shade. In the Special Edition, the carbon fiber hood is notably free of Nismo‘s official color because, according to Tamura, they were trying to save as much weight as possible, and painting the hood would have added another 100 grams.

It’s a trick they learned from the R34 V-spec II N1 GT-R, he says. Indeed, Nismo went all out for the car tuning the turbos for better response and recalibrating it for better balance, all in the pursuit of another level of excellence.

Unveiled this week, only the Special Edition of the 2022 GT-R Nismo is available with the clear-coated carbon hood. It also gets exclusive 20-inch Rays forged aluminum wheels with red accents.

The latest edition of the GT-R is powered by Nissan’s 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged VR38DETT V6, which makes 592 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque and comes with new piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, flywheel, crank pulley, and valve springs.

“The GT-R NISMO has always been an ongoing pursuit of ultimate driving pleasure,” Tamura said at the vehicle’s launch. “We take a holistic approach, seeking precision performance through a meticulous balance of engine components and shaving weight, and incrementally evolving the GT-R’s appearance to deliver the ultimate balance of power, performance and excitement to our customers.”

Pricing for the 2022 GT-R Nismo is not yet known, but order books are set to open this fall.
