Celebrating its world premiere at the Auto Shanghai 2021 in China, the new generation Nissan X-Trail, otherwise known as the Rogue in North America, will officially launch in Europe in summer 2022.
The compact SUV will join the likes of the brand’s new high-riders, such as the smaller third-gen Qashqai (aka Rogue Sport in the U.S.) and second-gen Juke, as well as the Ariya battery-electric crossover.
“The new X-Trail will remain true to its well-established SUV formula, which has proved so successful for Nissan since the introduction of the first model in 2001”, said the brand’s chairperson for the AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania) region, Guillaume Cartier. “It will offer more efficiency, refinement, versatility and user-friendly technology.”

The 2022 X-Trail will look identical to the new-gen Rogue. Nonetheless, while the model sold in the United States uses a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder rated at 181 HP and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque mated to a standard CVT and FWD, with AWD being an option, Europe’s variant will get the brand’s e-Power electrified powertrain that uses the internal combustion engine (ICE) strictly as an electricity generator, while the electric motor drives the wheels directly.
The all-wheel drive version will launch with more advanced driving modes that will improve traction on snow, gravel and mud. Also, like its predecessor, the new X-Trail will continue to be offered with an optional third row of seats.
Full details surrounding Europe’s 2022 X-Trail should be released close to its on-sale date.
