Australians go absolutely nuts for the iconic Holden Monaro and one of the finest examples is currently up for sale.
This Monaro is a one-off 1973 HQ GTS model that’s believed to be the only 350 4-speed coupe finished in factory black (called Warrigal Black by GM’s subsidiary). The listing states according to the Holden Historical Services verification letter, this one-off Monaro was a special color and trim order. The car was originally sold in the state of New South Wales and had been used as a daily driver; it also appeared at select motorsport events prior to being relocated interstate.

The listing reveals the car was recently refreshed with new paint and had all the chrome parts refinished, while the undercarriage was detailed. The Doeskin trimmed interior remains completely original, except for the carpet and seat belts, and found within the unrestored trunk is the original tool kit and Grand Rallye spare tire.
As a 1973 car, this Holden Monaro is a second-generation model, part of the famed in Australia HQ series that succeed the HK (and the updated HT / HG of the same series) and features the flagship 350 cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 that produces approximately 275 hp. That may not sound like much nowadays but back when this thing was new, it was among the most desirable performance cars on sale in Australia. Power is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a four-speed transmission.
The seller notes that it is particularly difficult to find a Monaro like this with the period-correct carburetor, distributor, exhaust manifolds, alternator, battery terminals, and radiator. The original gearbox also features genuine linkages, the standard bell housing, and its Hurst shifter.
The car is currently up for sale in Sydney by Australian Muscle Cars, but isn’t cheap as the dealership is only entertaining offers over AU$350,000 (US$266,000).
