Most of you know at this point that both Brian Johnson and Nick Mason are certified car nerds. But there’s something delightful about watching the two rock legends giggle with glee over a Ferrari.
In this pair of segments from AC/DC Lead Singer Brian Johnson’s TV “A Life On The Road,” he gets a tour of Pink Floyd founding member and drummer Nick Mason’s garage. The tour culminates in a ride in his 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that is a fixture at historical races like Goodwood.
According to Mason, though, the car isn’t some track-only race car. At least not the way he uses it. Despite its talent on race tracks of the world, it’s also a handy grand tourer that has taken both of Mason’s daughters to their weddings. More impressively, it has even gotten him across Europe to the Nurburgring.

The car also took Mason and (most of) the rest of Pink Floyd farther than that in 1987. After founding-member Roger Waters left the band, Pink Floyd decided to go on tour with its 13th studio album, “A Momentary Lapse of Reason.” In order to fund the tour, Mason used this Ferrari as collateral. It turned out to be a good decision, though, because it was the highest-grossing tour that year.
Featuring classic Astons, McLarens, and a fine selection of other race cars, the rest of Mason’s garage is no less impressive. Indeed, he comes by his love of racing honestly. The son of a classic car racer, he still has the Bentley his father raced when he was little.
“This is really where it all started, of course,” Mason says of the car. “Because this was my dad’s car and he used this and so the big treat when I was a kid was to go to Silverstone sitting in the back.”
