Porsche has reported a big jump in sales during Q1 2021 compared to a year ago and of particular note were sales of the all-electric Taycan.

During the first three months of the year, Porsche delivered no less than 9,072 Taycans, meaning it was neck-to-neck with the 911 which sold 9,133 units. Unsurprisingly, the Macan remains Porsche’s best-selling model with 22,458 units delivered in the first quarter.

Porsche’s second-best-selling model in the first quarter was the Cayenne, which accounted for 19,533 vehicles. A grand total of 6,190 examples of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman were delivered, slightly eclipsing the Panamera with 5,600 units handed over to customers.

All told, Porsche delivered 71,986 vehicles throughout the first three months of the year, a 36 per cent increase from Q1 2020.

“We are extremely pleased that the community of Porsche customers continues to grow all over the world,” member of the executive board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, Detlev von Platen, said. “Established models have supported this excellent result along with the latest additions to our product range, above all the new model variants of the all-electric Taycan. Thanks to the great appeal of our brand and a consistent sustainability strategy, we can look back on a very positive start to the year.”

China remains Porsche’s largest single market and accounted for 21,991 deliveries, 56 percent up than the same time period last year at the height of the coronavirus pandemic there. In the U.S., 17,368 vehicles were delivered, a 45 percent jump, while in Europe, deliveries rose by 16 percent to 19,389.
