Aston Martin is expected to unveil an updated version of the Valhalla sometime this year before production starts in 2023.
When the British car manufacturer first unveiled the Valhalla as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, it said that it would feature Aston Martin’s in-house TM01 twin-turbocharged V6 with electric assistance and would make a combined 1,000 hp. The car was also expected to launch with an 8-speed, F1-inspired dual-clutch transmission.

However, after Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz strengthened their ties, development of this V6 was halted and the production model will feature a completely different powertrain. While Aston Martin is yet to confirm what will power the Valhalla, Autocar speculates that it will probably be AMG’s electrified 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain that will also be used in the flagship Mercedes-AMG GT73 4Matic. In the super saloon, that powertrain is rumored to have over 800 hp, but that will be increased to four figures for the Valhalla, allowing it to rival the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
It remains unclear if the fitment of an all-new powertrain has necessitated any significant styling changes for the Valhalla, so we’ll have to wait until the revised model is unveiled. Aston Martin hasn’t disclosed how many orders it has taken for the mid-engined hypercar, but has confirmed that “a chunk” of the deposits it was holding at the end of 2020 were for the Valhalla.
