Prior to commencing customer deliveries of the Rivian R1T and R1S, the car manufacturer has detailed the factory warranty offered for both vehicles.

Like many other new car warranties on the market, the one for the R1T and R1S is split into different areas. The comprehensive portion of the warranty will cover the cost of all parts and labor necessary for any defective materials and covers 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

As for the battery pack, all of its internal components are warrantied for 8 years or 175,000 miles. Rivian will also warranty the battery to retain 70 per cent of its capacity for 8 years. As for the drivetrain warranty, it too is covered for 8 years or 175,000 miles. Rivian also provides an 8-year warranty with unlimited miles for protection against corrosion of the body panels.

The car manufacturer has confirmed that this warranty can also be transferred between owners.

Rivian’s warranty beats out those offered by Tesla. For example, Tesla’s basic vehicle limited warranty covers vehicles for four years or 50,000 miles while the battery and drive unit are warrantied for 8 years/150,000 miles for the Model S and Model X, 8 years/100,000 miles for the Model 3 Standard Range, and 8 years/120,000 for the Model 3 and Model Y Long Range and Performance models. Tesla’s also guarantees 70 per cent battery retention just like Rivian.
