The Lamborghini Urus has proven itself to be one of the quickest SUVs on the market, but can it out-accelerate the all-electric Tesla Model Y Performance?
Although they are both performance SUVs, that’s one of the few things they have in common. The Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that is good for 641 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque between 2,250 and 4,500 rpm. By comparison, the Model Y Performance rocks two electric motors and produces roughly the equivalent of 456 hp.

In the first drag race between the pair, it is the Urus that gets off the line best which is quite surprising when you consider just how brisk the Tesla is thanks to its superb traction and instant torque. As the speeds start to build, the Lamborghini begins to slowly creep out a lead, but not by as much as you may expect.
The second race is by far the closest as the Urus and Model Y Performance are virtually neck and neck at the start, although the Italian SUV does eke out a slight advantage, ultimately winning by a couple of car lengths.
Last but not least is a rolling drag race between the pair. When the drivers of the two SUVs mash their right feet into the carpets, the turbo lag of the Urus holds it up, allowing the Model Y to jump off into the lead. The Lamborghini was able to slowly claw back the Tesla’s advantage but not by enough to clinch the victory.
