By simply looking at images of the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5, you could be excused for thinking it is roughly the same size as the Tesla Model 3. As this video reveals, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
This clip was recently filmed in South Korea and shows the Ioniq 5 side-by-side alongside a Tesla Model 3 and the significant size differences between the duo are immediately apparent. Not only is the Ioniq 5 much longer than the entry-level Tesla, but its wheelbase is also much longer. The Ioniq 5 is also a touch taller than the Model 3 and appears to be wider. While a Model Y isn’t featured in this video, we suspect that it too would be dwarfed by the Hyundai.

The size of the Ioniq 5 also means its interior is much more spacious than the Tesla, especially for rear-seat passengers. The interior is so large, in fact, that the Ioniq 5 featured in this particular video even has room for a tray table in the second row.
Of course, it is not just size that the Hyundai has going for it as it is also underpinned by an impressive platform and filled with class-leading technologies. Like the Kia EV6, the Ioniq 5 uses the automaker’s dedicated Electric-Global modular Platform (E-GMP) and supports both 400- and 800-volt charging. This means that when the Ioniq 5 is pulled into a 350 kW charger, it can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. A five-minute charge will also give the car 62 miles (100 km) of range on the WLTP cycle.
