The 2021 Volkswagen Golf R has arrived to much fanfare and has already put some key players in the hot hatch market on notice. To help promote the hot hatch, VW has released a handful of videos of it being tested in the snow.
The videos feature Volkswagen R test driver Benny Leuchter and Swiss racing driver Jasmin Preisig and consist of various driving challenges that put not just the drivers to the test but also showcase some of the performance credentials of the Golf R.

The first video in the series was released in early March and shows Leuchter and Preisig powersliding through a sweeping right-hand turn while trying to hit as many orange cones as possible. Thanks to the new Drift mode found in the optional Performance Pack of the Mk8 Golf R, initiating and maintaining a slide seems like a walk in the park, at least for the two drivers in question.
The second video in the series features a drag race between the two drivers and two identical Golf R models. However, to make things a little more entertaining, the drivers are challenged to bring the cars to a stop in a small box, which is not easy when driving on snow. The remaining three videos feature three different challenges, including a slalom on a paved surface, a race between the drivers who must answer a quiz while driving, and a three-lap head-to-head shootout on an ice track.
