During the world premiere of the new VW ID.4 GTX, the German car manufacturer provided the world with its first glimpse of the forthcoming ID.5.
Our spy photographers have snapped prototypes of the ID.5 testing in recent months and in this animated teaser video, the upcoming all-electric coupe SUV is previewed with a wild fluorescent green and pink camouflage wrap that helps to hide most of its details. However, we can still pick out some key areas of its exterior design.

The ID.5 will be similar to the ID.4 but, being the compact electric SUV’s sportier “coupe” version, it will feature a distinctive roof, rear window, decklid and spoiler. The teaser video also confirms that VW will launch a GTX variant of the ID.5.
We expect to see the VW ID.5 in similar configurations and with similar powertrain options to the ID.4. Thus, entry-level models will probably come standard with a 58 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor with 201 hp at the rear axle. Meanwhile, the ID.5 GTX should have the same specifications as the ID.4 GTX, which means a dual electric motor setup delivering a combined 295 hp and a 77 kWh battery pack.
Volkswagen didn’t specify when the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX will launch, other than confirming that they are “coming soon.”
