We’re Not Quite Sure What To Make Of This Ford Explorer-Turned-Lincoln Hearse

While hearses aren’t typically thought of as particularly glamourous vehicles, we do usually expect them to at least be visually cohesive. However, in the case of this Ford-Lincoln mashup, that is unfortunately not the case.

Called the “Combination Coach”, the extended Explorer hearse was built by MK Coach and is being sold by Parks Superior Sales. You can very clearly tell the two design languages were not meant for each other. The angular styling of the Ford just does not mix well with the Lincoln’s curves. That especially comes to a head at the front, where we see the flat edge of the Explorer’s headlights jarringly meet up with the curved corners of the Lincoln grille.

The grille is an option, so you can still get the hearse as a normal Explorer, but that begs the question: why not just make a version of it based on the Lincoln Aviator, which the Explorer shares its platform with? It’s not as if that’s impossible, since the company actually does offer a Lincoln hearse – it’s just based on the Nautilus.

Not just that, but they claim that Lincoln grille on the front of the Explorer is actually from the Nautilus, so why not just get the company’s Nautilus hearse instead? The answer likely has to do with pricing, but with nothing explicitly listed on their website, that can’t be made certain one way or another.

Nevertheless, we’re more than willing to give credit where credit is due in terms of the execution and craftsmanship. The Explorer “Combination” hearse might not look too cohesive, but at least it’s well built.
