What Upcoming Sports Car Are You Most Excited About?

Sports cars and coupes have fallen by the wayside, but that doesn’t mean they’re down for the count. Quite the opposite as the Nissan Z, Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 are here to save the day.

While the latter two have been officially unveiled, Nissan is staying tight-lipped about the new Z. However, the model was previewed by the Z Proto and has been spotted undisguised on multiple occasions. That brings us to the question of the day, what upcoming sports car are you most excited about?

Out of the three, I’m looking forward to the new Z as it blends old school styling with a thoroughly modern design. The end result looks amazing and I dig the 300ZX inspired taillights.

The impressive design continues in the cabin as the model adopts a more upscale and modern interior. Details are limited, but we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an advanced infotainment system. Pictures have also shown familiar gauge pods, higher quality switchgear and throwback blue seats.

The Z should offer the most performance as it’s expected to use the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 as the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400. It produces 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque, and should be paired to a six-speed manual as well as a seven-speed automatic.

Moving on, the jointly developed Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 have a lot in common including a stiffer architecture and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 232 hp (173 kW / 235 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. With one of the gearboxes, the GR 86 will be able to run from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds – a 1.1 second improvement over the GT 86.

Those aren’t the only similarities as both models have a nearly identical interior with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment system. The exteriors are also similar, but we’ll give the nod to the Subaru and its more stylish front end.

There’s no word on U.S. pricing for any of the models, but the BRZ and GR 86 should start around $28,000. Pricing for the Z is less certain, but the 2020 370Z begins at $30,090. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the redesign is accompanied by a price hike.
