We’ve all seen the scenes in movies where someone is attempting to jump an opening drawbridge. Sometimes they make it, sometimes they don’t, but either way, it shouldn’t need to be said that it’s not something to try in real life. However, one driver in Florida must not have gotten the memo, as they decided to give it a go anyway.
The ordeal took place in Daytona Beach, Florida at the Main Street bridge, where according to WESH 2 News, the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe ignored several warning signs and flashing signals before plowing through the traffic arm at the bridge’s entrance. As a result, the SUV’s windshield and hood sustained some serious damage, but that did little to slow the driver down.

Cameras captured the moments to follow as they continued eastbound along the bridge towards the beach while it was still opening. Luckily, the driver managed to clear the gap before it got too wide, as the situation would have almost certainly ended worse if they had made the jump later or the bridge opened up any more.
We’re not really sure why they even attempted this stunt in the first place, as it didn’t look like they were being pursued by anything (not that they should’ve tried it if they were). Perhaps it was just out of curiosity, but that still doesn’t excuse their actions. Thankfully, police say they believe they have identified the driver, although that information has not yet been made known to the public.
