The wait for the 2021 Acura TLX Type S is almost over, as it will celebrate its public debut at the Acura Sports Car Challenge IMSA Race at Mid-Ohio this weekend.
The brand’s sports sedan will lead the field to the green flag for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race scheduled for May 14-16, dressed in Tiger Eye Pearl, a paint finish that’s exclusive to this model.
Driven: Acura Gets Its Mojo Back With The 2021 TLX
The event will be a good opportunity for the 2021 TLX Type S to prove its mettle. It has 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet (480 Nm) of torque produced by the 3.0-liter V6 engine, which uses a single twin-scroll turbocharger, dual overhead cam, and direct injection. The mill is hooked up to a sport-tuned automatic transmission with ten speeds and Acura’s Super-Handling All-wheel Drive (SH-AWD) with torque vectoring. An exclusive Sport+ driving mode, together with the double-wishbone front suspension and Brembo brakes, is part of the build.
Telling it apart from the rest of the second-gen TLX models is quite easy, as the Type S features an open-surface Diamond Pentagon grille that helps increase the airflow, front splitter, rear diffuser, quad exhaust pipes, and two wheel designs, including the lightweight set equipping the pace car that’s optional and was inspired by the NSX.
Ultrasuede upholstery, heated and ventilated 16-way power-adjustable front seats with ‘Type S’ embossing on the headrests, flat-bottom steering wheel, 10.2-inch infotainment system with sat-nav, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and 17-speaker Els Studio 3D premium audio are found inside.
Acura should announce the official pricing details of the car soon, but they have already said that it will start in the “low $50,000s”.
