Having been delayed a few months, the 2021 Ram 1500 DT has finally arrived in Australia, where it will be sold alongside the DS series (Classic).
Available in the Laramie and Limited trim levels, it is powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with cylinder deactivation technology, backed up by a mild-hybrid system for short-term torque assist and brake energy regeneration. The powertrain produces 291 kW (396 PS / 390 HP) at 5,600 rpm and 556 Nm (410 lb-ft) of torque at 3,950 rpm.
Review: Is The Ram 1500 Laramie The Best Truck In Its Class?
“The all-new 1500 DT marks the culmination of a detailed planning, development, remanufacturing and testing program with our local and global sales partners, including Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (US)”, said Jeff Barber, the Ram Trucks Australia National Manager. “With the all-new 2500 and 3500 also arriving later this year – and some other exciting developments – 2021 looks set to be a record year for Ram Trucks Australia.”
Thanks to its new design, with a drag coefficient of 0.357, the 2021 Ram 1500 is, according to the automaker, “one of the most aerodynamic trucks in the world”. It features active grille shutters and air dams, as well as 22-inch wheels, air suspension and power retractable side steps, which are an option on the Laramie, that improve ingress and egress.
Inside, occupants will enjoy things such as the leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, 12-inch infotainment system with smartphone integration and sat-nav, 360-degree camera system, Harman Kardon premium audio with 10-inch subwoofer and active noise canceling, among others.
In terms of pricing, Aussies will be looking at AU$114,950 (US$89,192), excluding on-road costs, for the base 1500 Laramie Crew Cab, and AU$119,900 (US$93,033) for the RamBox specification. The Limited Crew Cab RamBox and Launch Edition models will start at AU$139,950 (US$108,590) respectively.
