2021 VW Taigo Spied Naked In Europe, Looks The Same As South America’s Nivus

The Nivus will officially make its way to Europe this summer, where Volkswagen will sell it as the 2021 Taigo.

In the meantime, our spy photographers have nabbed a prototype out in the open in Germany with no camouflage whatsoever, revealing an (almost) identical styling to its South American sibling.

The subcompact crossover coupe has LED headlights, which will be standard, as Volkswagen has previously confirmed, and a more simplified chrome strip in the grille. It also lacks the front fender badges, for now at least. At the back, the diffuser appears to have been modestly tweaked and the taillights have new graphics. The ‘Nivus’ logo in the middle of the tailgate will be replaced by ‘Taigo’ lettering . Other than that, it might be offered with new exterior colors and wheels.

In one of the images we can see the upper part of the dashboard, which looks identical to the Nivus and Polo supermini. If that’s the case, then expect it to host a 10-inch infotainment system right above the central air vents, next to the (presumably optional) 10.25-inch digital dials.

The German automaker has yet to release more details, but the 2021 Taigo is expected to mirror its South American counterpart in terms of safety gear, with features like autonomous emergency braking, hill-start assist, electronic stability control, fatigue detector and adaptive cruise control.

We don’t know anything about the engine family yet, but the Nivus comes with a 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder mill that delivers 114 HP on petrol and 126 HP on ethanol and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
