Bentley decided to update the Flying Spur despite its large luxury sedan being on the market for just one year.

The 2022 Flying Spur now offers an even quieter cabin thanks to the company utilizing a ‘Virtual Prototyping’ design processes, which enabled the use of digital mock-ups to identify any unwanted NVH before even building a physical version of the car.

Bentley claims that the cutting-edge process allowed them to optimize no less than 40 components, ensuring the use of the correct soundproofing materials on the right locations around the new Flying Spur for the “quietest cabin experience possible”.

“By using Virtual Prototyping, Bentley succeeded in what we set out to do –optimize every component of the Flying Spur firstly in the virtual world before we create physical parts,” said Simon Noble, Acoustic Engineer at Bentley Motors. “At the same time, we have reduced physical prototypes, creating the quietest in-cabin experience for our customers.”

In addition, the updated 2022 Flying Spur offers more equipment as standard, including traffic sign recognition, hands-free boot opening, extended safeguard features, top-view camera, welcome lighting, and automatic dimming mirrors, as well as the Air Ioniser. Bentley has also added the new Cambrian Grey exterior paint, expanding the Flying Spur’s standard paint palette to 63 colors.

The interior of the four-door Bentley comes with new features like an open-pore veneer finished in an ultra-thin matte lacquer solely for protection. The open-pore finish is available in Crown Cut Walnut, Dark Burr Walnut, and Koa veneers. Bentley’s new open-pore veneers are painted with just three ultra-thin layers of lacquer, totaling only 0.1 mm of thickness, giving them a wax-like finish and ensuring that customers can actually feel the texture of the wood. By comparison, Bentley’s High Gloss lacquer coating is 0.5 mm thick, featuring a glossy, smooth finish.

No changes were made to the powertrains, so the 2022 Flying Spur is still available with either a 542 HP 4.0-liter V8 or the range-topping 626 HP 6.0-liter W12 engine.
