Alfa Romeo has issued a recall for a handful of Giulia and Stelvio models in the United States.
An investigation by the car manufactured has revealed that certain 2019-2021 Stelvio and 2020-2021 Giulia models were built with an ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU) that has a missing or partially missing weld on the rotor of the brushless motor.

In the case of the Stelvio, Alfa Romeo says the improper welds affected some vehicles made between February 4, 2019 and December 7, 2020. A grand total of seven Stelvios in the U.S. are involved in the recall. As for the Giulia, affected models were manufactured between February 27, 2020 and February 10, 2021. In this case there are two examples that are being recalled.
Alfa Romeo says that during hard braking, the ABS HCU rotor and shaft may separate. This could lead to a reduction in braking assistance and the loss of ABS functionality. The carmaker adds that is hasn’t identified any custom assistance records, warranty claims, or field reports, nor is it aware of any accidents or injuries relating to the issue.
To resolve the problem FCA will replace the suspect ABS HCU. It will also reimburse any owners who have incurred the cost of repairing the problem prior to this recall. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles started notifying dealers about the recall on May 4 and will notify owners on or around June 23.
