Our spies have caught a glimpse of what they believe to be another Mercedes-AMG EQS prototype wearing less camouflage than before. While maintaining the yellow brake calipers, small rear wing and other (minor) features of the previous tester, this one was riding on higher profile wheels (275/40 on 21″ rims), though Mercedes will likely offer different wheel options when the electric performance model hits dealerships. The world of electric vehicles is growing rapidly, and that will mean a slew of performance variants coming soon. The latest we’ve seen testing is the AMG version of the brand spanking new EQS.
Mercedes’ electric halo car, the EQS packs all of the latest tech, but the brand has promised that a 715 HP version is on the way, and we might be looking at it. Although it’s a little difficult to differentiate this from other models thanks to the camouflage, the automaker couldn’t hide those big ceramic discs or those yellow brake calipers.
Although it’s effectively camouflaged, there is the faintest whisper of a spoiler on the trunk, which might suggest that Mercedes is willing to sacrifice just a little bit of that 0.20 drag coefficient in the name of downforce.

Little outlets behind the rear wheels also suggest performance as well as Mercedes’ mastery of the air. With camouflage on the front and rear, it’s hard to know how else the brand will choose to telegraph the car’s performance bona fides.
Of course, performance figures aren’t known at this point but the EQS 580 already makes 516 HP and 630 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to get you leaping off the line and all the way to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds.
Tipping the scales at up to 5,699 lbs (2,582 kg), though, we hope AMG will be able to do a little bit of work reigning in that curb weight.
Mercedes has already registered trademarks for the names EQS43, EQS53, and EQS63, so it’s anyone’s guess which one this will be. No matter what, it should be impressive.
Rumor has it the car will debut late this year or early in 2022.
