Various prototypes of the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS have been spied testing in recent months and while the following video is only short, it showcases one aspect of the track-focused sports car that we didn’t previously know about.
All test cars being put through their paces by Porsche have been outfitted with a towering rear wing that looks more fitting of a race car than it does a street car. This wing has swan neck supports much like the standard GT3 and also features two horizontal elements that, as it turns out, can open and close.

In this video, the wing of the GT3 RS is primarily in its open position but in the final second of the clip, the rear wing closes. Interestingly, the rear didn’t close when the driver hit the brakes, suggesting that the wing is acting like a drag reduction system (DRS) and opening up to boost the vehicle’s top speed. There’s probably a switch or a button in the interior that is used to adjust the wing.
Of course, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will have much more going for it than a trick rear wing.
Like the standard GT3, the car will feature a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine that could pump out anywhere between 532 hp and 572 hp, according to our sources. It’s even possible the engine’s displacement could swell to 4.2-liters, allowing the car to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 3.2 seconds. Porsche will also equip the car will larger brakes and a bespoke suspension system.
