What do you get when you combine a DeLorean DMC-12 with a Kia Stinger GT? The answer is a performance machine that could give some modern-day sports cars a run for their money.

The DMC-12 was originally sold to the world with a 2.85-liter PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) V6 pumping out a mere 130 hp. While one could make an argument that you don’t need any more power than that for typical driving on the street, the sleek looks of the DeLorean are crying out for more power. That’s where the Kia Stinger GT comes in.

This particular DMC-12 has been built by OMD San Diego and has ditched the original puny V6 in favor of the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 of a Stinger. Sure, slotting in a big-capacity LS V8 would have been cool but it would have been a little too predictable – and we don’t know if it would fit just as easily.

The Stinger’s 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 typically pumps out around 365 hp but this one has been upgraded with new Garrett turbochargers, port injection, a custom aluminum intake manifold, surge tank, and machined intercoolers that allow it to reliably pump out 487 hp through the rear wheels, meaning it has probably more than 600 hp at the crank. Torque sits at just over 380 lb-ft and is available from 4,000 rpm through to 7,200 rpm.

Obviously, the transmission that the DeLorean originally left the factory with wouldn’t have been up for the task of dealing with all that power so it has been replaced by a six-speed manual gearbox from a 996-generation Porsche 911.
