More often than not, petrolheads would like to see more Japan-only performance cars make it outside their home market. This is a rare case of the Japanese envying a model that’s sold in the U.S.
This Infiniti Q60 was imported into the Land of the Rising Sun and was modified to churn out 1,000 hp. The car was built for renowned restorer Tatsuhiro Shibata’s drift team. The builder is featured in the film driving a stock Q60, which he also imported for his own personal use.
“In my eyes, the Q60 was the best looking of [the Infiniti lineup], but they didn’t sell any in Japan. So we had to go to the U.S. to find one,” Shibata says. “It’s simple; I just wanted a good-looking racing car.”

The drift car featured in this video competes at the highest levels in Japan’s drifting scene at the hands of Koudai Sobagiri. The car was filmed on a closed course built for the video on Yokohama Harbor in February.
It features carbon fiber bumpers, fenders, overfenders, side skirts, doors, roof, hood, and trunk, ENDLESS 6-piston brake calipers up front and sits on RAYS GL-57CR wheels wrapped in SAILUN Gene R tires.
The engine is a 4.1-liter version of Nissan’s VR38DETT V6 engine with an HKS GT1000+ turbocharger making 1,000 hp and is hooked up to a 6-speed sequential gearbox.
If you want to learn more about the build, Infiniti will be releasing more videos with behind-the-scenes footage from this shoot as well as a feature about the car’s path to drifting.
