Automobili Estrema has pulled the covers off the new Fulminea electric hypercar, which was presented earlier today in show car form at the Turin Automobile Museum.

The new Estrema Fulminea will offer a combined 2,040 HP from its four electric motors but what sets it apart from the other electric hypercars is the battery technology; Automobili Estrema says that they are going to fit the Fulminea with a ‘hybrid’ battery pack that consists of both ultra-capacitors and solid-state cells.

Both battery technologies are considered to be cutting-edge, with the capacitors making an appearance in Lamborghini’s limited-production Sian, but we’ve yet to see a road-going electric vehicle using a solid-state battery pack.

When asked about how they are planning to introduce solid-state batteries into a production vehicle before any other major manufacturer in the market, the company’s boss Gianfranco Pizzuto said that this is possible due to the low-volume nature of the Fulminea and the strong backing of their partner ABEE ( (Avesta Battery Energy Engineering) Group.  The “hybrid” battery pack, including the Li-ion solid-state cells, will be produced in cooperation with IMECAR Elektronik.

The two different types of cells will be housed in different cases made out of carbon fiber, with the smaller one containing the ultracapacitors mounted behind the front axle while the larger solid-state pack will use cell-to-pack technology and will be mounted behind the cockpit for optimal weight distribution.

Estrema says that the total weight of the “hybrid” battery pack will be kept at around 300 kg (661 lbs) while achieving an unprecedented energy density of 500 Wh/kg. The combined battery capacity is set at 100 kWh while the total weight of the Fulminea is expected to be around 1,500 kg (3,306 lbs). When plugged into a DC fast charger, the Fulminea’s battery will be able to go from 10 to 80 percent charged in less than 15 minutes.

Estrema claims that the Fulminea’s 2,040 HP will be enough to send the electric hypercar from 0 to 200 mph (320 km/h) in less than 10 seconds, targeting a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of around 2 seconds. In addition, the estimated driving range from that trick 100kWh battery pack is 323 miles (520 km) on the WLTP cycle.

The new Estrema Fulminea mixes LED and laser technology for its headlights, which are inspired by the shape of a lightning bolt, while at the rear you’ll find a set of highly transparent recycled methacrylate panels with RGB LED lights, creating an optic fiber-like effect. In addition, the third-brake light is integrated into a transparent shark fin that runs across the rear of the car.

Automobili Estrema plans to build the Fulminea electric hypercar in 61 examples, with the first production examples to hit the market in Q3 of 2023. As for the price, if you’re not prepared to spend around 2 million euros ($2.4 million), don’t even bother asking.
