The long-awaited Ford F-150 Lightning is scheduled to be unveiled to the world in the evening of Wednesday, May 19 but it recently made a surprise appearance when President Biden was visiting the automaker’s Rouge plant in Dearborn.
While giving a speech at the plant, a silver Ford F-150 Lightning prototype could be seen parked up in the background, free of any camouflage. We highly doubt this was an accident on Ford’s part as the vehicle was quite clearly positioned in just a way to be visible in the background.

Some obvious visual alterations have been made to the front of the F-150 Lightning, including the fitment of distinctive headlights and an LED light bar stretching the width of the fascia. There is also a blocked-off gloss black grille. The front bumper appears largely the same as combustion engine’d F-150 models, as do the wing mirrors and the windshield.

During his visit to the plant, President Biden also had the opportunity to briefly test drive a camouflage F-150 Lightning prototype. Biden is a noted car enthusiast and tells reporters “this sucker is quick” after going for a quick blast in it. He then states that it hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in around 4.3 or 4.4 seconds but a Ford representative can be heard replying that the automaker hasn’t yet released acceleration details. Biden then accelerated up to 80 mph in the electric truck.
Biden was visiting the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn to promote his infrastructure plan that will include billions of dollars of investments into the development of EVs.
