Cupra seems to have done a very good job at developing the 2021 Leon. It looks more youthful than its German cousin, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and goes like stink.
In 300 TSI guise, which is the one put to the test on film down below, it boasts identical output and torque numbers to the Golf GTI Clubsport. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine develops 300 PS (296 HP / 221 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-cluch transmission, and the layout and size puts it against the likes of the Ford Focus ST, Renault Megane RS, Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai Kona N and BMW 128ti front-wheel drive compact hot hatchbacks. Cupra claims that the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes 5.7 seconds, but this reviewer has learned that it’s a bit quicker even in the wet, while on dry asphalt, it will get there around half a second faster. Top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h (155 mph).
The exterior is adorned with the brand’s signature copper accents, which are also found inside. The sports front seats provide ample support, which comes in handy when the driver decides to take on the twisties – something the 2021 Leon 300 TSI is very good at, as it’s agile and responsive. It also puts down the power very efficiently, and you get all these in a package that does not sacrifice rear headroom and legroom, as well as boot space.
