Many car companies team up with watchmakers in order to create a timepiece. Mercedes-AMG and IWC have been collaborating for quite some time now and they have just launched a new chronograph.

The luxury Swiss watchmaker and the German car manufacturer have worked hand in hand since 2004 with notable success together in the motorsports arena. The long-standing relationship between the two will see Mercedes-AMG as a permanent feature of IWC’s Pilot’s Watch Collection. The new collaboration starts with the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG.”

The inspiration from AMG’s automotive products is evident, with the new watch using several elements from the auto world in its construction. The 43 mm case is made out of extremely light, scratch-resistant Grade 5 titanium that gives the timepiece a matte grey appearance which is inspired by AMG’s signature Selenite Grey Magno paint finish.

More automotive inspiration is seen in the watch’s face that features a black carbon dial with silver chronograph subdials and woven carbon components like the ones used by AMG in its aero components. The Mercedes-AMG logo is emblazoned on the tinted sapphire crystal case back and the watch is accompanied by a black embossed calf leather strap with contrast stitching and a folding clasp.

Under the “hood,” the Pilot’s Chronograph Edition “AMG” is powered by the IWC 69385 movement which enables stop time measurements of up to 12 hours and has a power reserve of 46 hours.

The new watch was released by IWC during a webcast between IWC CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr, Mercedes-AMG CEO Philipp Schiemer, and shared brand ambassador and racing driver Maro Engel. “Our commitment to the craftsmanship of the highest level and our pursuit of emotional product experiences is what has united us since 2004, said Schiemer speaking on the two brands’ history. “The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” once again underlines our strong partnership.”

The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” is priced at £8,500 (equal to around $12,000 at current exchange rates) in the UK , 9,800 euros (equal to $11,900) in Germany, and at $9,100 in the U.S.A. and is available to pre-order from May 21 at IWC’s official website, IWC boutiques and authorized dealers.
