The Grand Tour co-host James May has owned some great sports cars over the years, but since even Captain Slow needs a good daily driver, he chose a Tesla Model S for this job.

The blue 100D Long Range Model S has been with him for quite some time now, enough to make him do a video about the things that he hates, like the loud ‘clonk’ sound coming from the rear or the beep let out by the trunk closing.

So, did he experience any other issues with his Model S? As it turns out, he did. The enforced lockdown meant that May was forced to stay inside, and during that time, the 12-volt battery in his EV went flat. Easy fix, right? Actually no, because this meant that the doors cannot be unlocked in order to get inside and pop the frunk open to access it.

Thus, he reached out to Tesla, who told him that there are some things he needed to do in order to jump start his car. It was a tedious process that started with the removal of the plastic trim inside the front wheel arches to access the two emergency releases. Then he had to take out more plastic trim, panels and ducting in the frunk to get to the battery and charge it, and that took him around an hour. Sounds like a hassle, doesn’t it?
