McLaren Racing has unveiled a special Gulf Oil International livery that its F1 cars will run at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.
McLaren and Gulf revived their relationship in July 2020 and the striking blue and orange theme will be featured not only one the MCL35M race cars driven by Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo but the colors will also adorn the drivers race suits and the race team kit. Norris and Ricciardo will also wear one-off helmets with bespoke retro designs that will later be raffled off for the team’s mental health charity partner, Mind.

“This will be McLaren’s homage to Gulf’s celebrated race car design,” McLaren Racing chief executive Zak Brown said. “We’re enormous fans of brave and bold design, and the striking Gulf blue is among the most loved liveries in racing, a celebrated piece of culture which transcends the world of motorsport. Design has always been important to McLaren – you see this in everything we do from our return to papaya to our stunning headquarters, the McLaren Technology Centre. We’re excited to exhibit this as a team and celebrate our proud association with Gulf in Monaco.”
“Gulf and McLaren have a relationship that dates back to 1968 and is one of the most successful partnerships in motorsport,” added Gulf Oil chief executive Mike Jones. “We are incredibly excited to pay tribute to this heritage with our classic livery design at the Monaco Grand Prix, the most spectacular and stylish event on the Formula 1 calendar.”
The Monaco Grand Prix didn’t feature during last year’s F1 season because of the coronavirus pandemic. Ricciardo is a previous race-winner at the circuit and will no doubt be looking to close the gap to Norris who has outperformed him this season.
