The Koenigsegg Regera has a potent hybrid powertrain delivering an insane 1,500 hp and you could easily think that is far too much power to exploit on the streets of Monaco or the narrow mountain roads above the exclusive principality. However, that didn’t stop Nico Rosberg from pushing the exclusive hypercar to its limits prior to the Monaco Grand Prix over the weekend.
The former F1 world champion and now automotive YouTuber was handed the keys to a particularly striking Regera clad in exposed carbon fiber bodywork. He has the opportunity to speak with Koenigsegg about the car to discover all of its ins and outs before he takes it for a quick spin around the GP track and then heads to the hills.

Koenigsegg is building just 80 examples of the Regera, each with a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that works alongside three electric motors to deliver 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque. What’s particularly unique about the Regera’s powertrain is the fact that it lacks a traditional transmission and instead has a direct drive system.
Obviously, the Regera provides remarkable straight-line performance but being a former F1 driver, Rosberg is obviously used to insane acceleration. What seems to impress him the most is the mechanical grip provided by the Swedish hypercar. According to him, it grips to the road unlike any other production car he has driven and for a car with so much power, all of which is sent to the rear wheels, that’s very impressive.
